Bring the Noise 5K set for Aug. 29

The annual Bring the Noise 5K, sponsored by the Vinton Kiwanis Club, will take place Saturday morning, Aug. 29, at 9 a.m. at the Benton County Courthouse. Click HERE to register on-line.

Annual Farmers Market Salsa Contest set for Thursday; cooks invited to compete

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department Farmer’s Market will once again host the annual Salsa Contest this Thursday, August 6th. If you are interested in entering a salsa, please notify us prior the contest date if at all possible.   The rules of the contest are simple: 1. Individuals may enter both types of salsa: mild or spicy/other 2.

Peo MZ to meet Aug. 10

PEO Chapter MZ will meet on Monday, August 10, 1:30, at the home of Joan Hyde assisted by Jackie Schoettmer.  Judith Bunyi will present the program.

Breast Cancer Survivors to meet Aug. 10; change monthly meeting schedule

Breast Cancer Survivors group has changed their meeting. We will now meet the second Monday of each month beginning August 10. Please note this change! We will meet at Windsor Manor in the dining room at 5:30 p.m. for dinner. Meeting to follow. Reservations are appreciated. Birthday party for Emma Redlinger, Aug. 4, at Celebration Park

Emma Redlinger would have celebrated her 15th birthday on Tuesday, Aug. 4. To celebrate her life, her family is organizing a "Happy Birthday Emma Grace" party at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Celebration Park in Vinton. "It's going to be big," says Emma's mom, Aimee.  At least 20 miniature hot air lanterns will be lit and released in Emma's memory.

Wrap-Up RAGBRAI Meeting will be Tuesday, August 4 at 6:30pm at Farmers Savings Bank. All community members are welcome and encouraged to attend!  

60 foot banana split coming to Vinton August 13th

Put it on your calendar now!   Blessed Hope Church will be holding their "Back to School" event on August 13th, 6:30 p.m. at the local the farmer's market.  Last year the church provided a 50 foot banana split and soon discovered that this year they might need to do a little more, so this year there will be a 60 foot banana split available for the public to enjoy! Bring the kids out for a sweet treat on us! Blessed Hope church is located at 1509 M Ave.

Sweet Corn Season at Hummel Park

Blessed Hope Church will be selling sweetcorn today, while supplies last. $4.00 Baker's Dozen,  Proceeds will go toward local outreach programs.

American Red Cross to Host Iowa Resiliency Summit

Event will focus on how to make Iowans more prepared. The American Red Cross serving Greater Iowa is excited to host its first ever Iowa Resiliency Summit!  This one day event on Wednesday, July 29, will focus on making Iowa a more prepared and resilient state by building at the local community and individual level. We will explore how community organizations can work together to ensure that Iowans are prepared for and able to recover from disasters.

Zachary Freedom to perform August 7th at Riverside Park

There will be a performance by Zachary Freedom with an opening by Rachael Henkle on Friday August 7th at the Riverside Park in Vinton. Concert begins at 7:00 p.m. This concert will serve as a community "wrap-up" for the summer CSI program.  This will be a great opportunity to enjoy some great music and see the kids who have participated in the summer CSI program who will also perform.
